Oily & Combo Skin

Oily and combination skin types are common, and while they share some characteristics, they also have distinct differences. Here’s a breakdown:

Oily Skin:

  • Excess oil production: People with oily skin tend to have overactive sebaceous glands that produce more sebum (oil) than necessary.
  • Shiny appearance: Skin often looks shiny, particularly in the T-zone (forehead, nose, chin), and can feel greasy throughout the day.
  • Enlarged pores: The excess oil can clog pores, making them appear larger, particularly on the nose and cheeks.
  • Prone to acne: Oily skin is more susceptible to blackheads, whiteheads, and acne due to the excess oil that can trap dirt, bacteria, and dead skin cells in the pores.
  • Thicker skin texture: Oily skin may feel thicker or more textured because of the constant production of oil.
  • Frequent breakouts: Acne and blemishes may be recurring, especially if not properly managed.

Combination Skin:

  • Different areas of oiliness and dryness: Combination skin involves multiple zones, where certain areas (typically the T-zone: forehead, nose, chin) are oily, while others (usually cheeks and sometimes around the eyes) are dry or normal.
  • Balance of oil production: The T-zone tends to have more oil production, while the other areas can feel tight, dry, or flaky.
  • Variable texture: Some parts of the face may feel smooth and hydrated, while others feel greasy or rough.
  • Occasional breakouts: Combination skin can still be prone to acne, particularly in the oily areas, but the dry areas might have issues like flakiness, redness, or irritation.
  • Sensitive areas: The areas of dryness or sensitivity often react differently to skincare products than the oily areas, requiring a more targeted skincare routine.
